LevelReads is offered as a digital service (the "Service") to help educators and caregivers generate printable early reader booklets. The Service is operated by Eric Wolter (Einzelunternehmen), c/o Starthouse Spessart, Vorstadtstraße 12, 97816 Lohr am Main, Germany. By using the Service you confirm you are at least 18 years old and that you have authority to accept these terms on behalf of any organization you represent.

• Credits and payments: Credits are sold through the third-party payment provider Stripe. Credits are delivered immediately after a successful checkout. Finalizing a booklet deducts exactly one credit when PDF generation succeeds.
• Refunds and withdrawal: We offer a 14-day withdrawal right for credit purchases. If you withdraw, unused credits are refunded and we charge for credits already used.
• Acceptable use: You are responsible for the prompts and content you generate. Do not use the Service for unlawful, defamatory, or discriminatory content. We may suspend access that violates law, infringes third-party rights, or attempts to reverse-engineer the Service.
• Availability: The Service is provided on a reasonable-efforts basis. We may update, change, or discontinue features; material changes will be announced in-product. Download your PDFs promptly; we do not guarantee long-term storage.
• Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by law, we provide the Service "as is" without warranties and limit liability to the amount you paid for credits in the last 12 months. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

We process your data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable German law.

Data we process

• Account data: Email address, authentication tokens, and purchase history so we can secure access and deliver credits. If you sign in with Microsoft or Apple, we receive the identifier provided by that provider.
• Booklet data: Prompts, generated story text, booklet titles, reading level, and edits you make. Final PDFs are stored so you can reprint them later. We avoid storing unnecessary personal data and do not require real names in prompts.
• Usage analytics: Event data about key product flows (activation, checkout, export). We do not send your email address to analytics.
• Technical data: IP address, device/browser information, and log data collected automatically for security and fraud prevention.
• Payment data: Stripe checkout session IDs, payment status, and pack IDs. We do not receive full payment card data.

Purpose and legal basis

• Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): Providing the Service, managing credits, and generating PDFs.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): Preventing abuse, improving reliability, and understanding feature adoption (including cookieless analytics). We balance these interests against your rights before processing.
• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): Cookie-based analytics where you accept the cookie banner. You may withdraw consent at any time.

Processors and transfers

• Hosting and auth: Supabase (EU region) provides authentication, database, and storage. Sessions rely on secure cookies.
• AI generation: OpenRouter processes prompts and generated text to produce the story content. We request zero retention and no model training on our data.
• Payments: Stripe processes payments; we receive confirmation of successful charges and credit delivery but do not store full payment card data.
• Analytics: PostHog collects product analytics. Cookie-based tracking is only enabled with consent; otherwise analytics runs in cookieless mode. We do not send email addresses to PostHog. See the Cookies/Tracking section for more details.
• OAuth sign-in: Microsoft or Apple processes authentication when you use social login.
• Processing locations: We can provide details on processing locations and safeguards on request.

Retention and rights

• Retention: Account and booklet data are stored for the duration of your account. Purchase records are stored for statutory retention periods. Temporary logs are rotated regularly.
• Your rights: You can request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection under Arts. 15–21 GDPR. Contact us at privacy@levelreads.com to exercise these rights. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.

We use only the cookies necessary to secure sessions and remember preferences. Authentication cookies from Supabase are essential and cannot be switched off without breaking sign-in. We do not use ad networks.

• Essential cookies: Authentication state, CSRF protection, and theme preferences.
• Analytics: PostHog is used to understand activation, checkout, and export flows. We avoid storing reader names or full prompts. You can manage your consent in the cookie banner or by contacting us at privacy@levelreads.com for analytics opt-out. If you decline, analytics runs in cookieless mode without setting cookies or local storage.
• Storage: Local storage may cache UI preferences. Clearing browser storage removes these entries.

Credit purchases

Credits are prepaid services that you can use to generate digital downloads. We offer a 14-day right of withdrawal for credit purchases. If you withdraw, we refund unused credits and charge for credits already used.

Digital downloads (per booklet)

When you finalize a booklet, we provide the PDF immediately. Before finalizing, we ask for your express consent to begin the digital delivery right away and your acknowledgement that the withdrawal right expires for that specific download once delivery begins.
